RIP to the **BLEEP** | 1921 - 2023

Dirty word eliminator, Profanity blocker, Rude language muffler, or Curse word suppressor. We all know and love the famous **BLEEP**.

It first saw the light of day In 1921 when the actress Olga Petrova, appeared on Newark's WJZ radio station and read her own version of Mother Goose rhymes.

Olga's version said ‘There was an old woman who lived in a shoe, She had so many children because she didn’t know what to do.’

Olga arguably broke the 1873 Comstock laws that banned contraception information - so no talking about birth control in the good ol' days.

This sparked the means for censoring broadcast content. The radio station simply provided the technician a way to kill the audio when a curse word might be said. Hence the birth of the **BLEEP**.

Fast forward to 2023 where we can **BLEEP** add **BLEEP** to the ever-growing list of ‘Death by AI’!

The man responsible for this monstrous act is Scott Mann, founder of Flawless, a neural network lab. Mann is a Hollywood Director and Producer who’s worked with the likes of Robert De Niro and Pierce Brosnan and then he also hates **BLEEP** sounds.

Mann was apparently also never satisfied with the way dubbed films looked.

He and his team created their own software called TrueSync. This revolutionary software matches an actor's mouth movements to dubbed dialogue, making it look seamless.

TrueSync is a lifesaver for those tricky PG-13 ratings too. Need to remove a few curse words from a film. No problem, TrueSync has got you **BLEEP** covered!

Flawless works with Guild unions to ensure protections for actors, directors, and writers in regard to AI in film. Mann advises not to worry about being replaced, as AI isn’t yet at the stage to do better than humans.

But it will be in the near future so better embrace the changes as it creates many creative opportunities.

From the birth of the **BLEEP** in censoring radio broadcasting to its death by AI, the film industry has evolved with new opportunities and challenges.

Embrace the change and learn from it, as AI presents more creative opportunities rather than limitations.
